German officials warned against using WhatsApp

US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — Ulrich Kelber, the German government data protection official, warned federal officials that WhatsApp might not be safe. According to him, through sending messages the messenger receives various data about the person.

Kelber’s letter with this warning was sent to all federal ministries of Germany. It notes that all data collected after sending messages, WhatsApp can transfer to its owner – the company Facebook. So, it can be IP addresses, information about the user’s location, smartphone, time of sending a message.

Based on these data, you can draw up a fairly detailed profile of a person that will contain information not only about the profession or financial situation, but even about health.

“In this regard, I recommend that the use of WhatsApp by the federal authorities be excluded,” quotes an excerpt from an official’s letter.
