(ORDO NEWS) — Philip Metzger, a planetary scientist at the University of Central Florida, told the Los Angeles Times that future colonists on Earth‘s natural satellite are threatened by lunar dust.
Lunar dust, which is made up of fine, sharp-edged particles, poses a major problem for astronauts and virtually any man-made object that must land on or take off from the Moon ‘s surface .
“This is not the simple dust that we are used to on Earth,” explains the scientist.
“Fine particles of lunar soil penetrate everywhere, even into spacesuits.”
And they will create a significant threat to human health, hitting the lungs. At the moment, according to the planetary scientist, there is no universal solution to the problem of lunar dust yet.
