(ORDO NEWS) — Michael Rodriguez, a physical therapist and sports medicine coach, outlined principles for safer running for older people.
According to the doctor, jogging causes two to three times the stress on the knee joint, which is especially problematic for middle-aged runners. In order to reduce the risk of injury, your doctor advises you to increase the warm-up time before jogging.
Rodriguez says it’s better to start running marathons instead of starting, but to build up the duration over time, as well as cut back on workouts and choose softer surfaces such as paths or individual treadmills for running.
The most important thing is to allow the body to recover, get enough sleep and monitor the diet, paying special attention to the content of calcium and vitamin D, the doctor said.
