(ORDO NEWS) — The rover discovered a small arch in Gale Crater that has a textured surface. It consists of some material that is not afraid of the effects of erosion.
The device took several photos from which Kevin Gill was able to assemble a whole mosaic. Reported by CNET.
In turn, one of NASA specialists Abigail Freiman said that he admires the elegance of this arch and the textures that are present on it. It should be noted that today the rover is studying the transition zone between the territory containing clay minerals and the one in which there is a huge amount of gypsum and Epsom salts.
The study areas demonstrate that water has been present in the past. This region is very interested in specialists who are trying to establish whether microbes once lived on Mars or not.
Due to the fact that the field of view for photographs does not exceed 16.5 cm, the arch appears very tiny on them. In fact, education is much more. Experts believe that it arose from a material that is not afraid of corrosion, because Gale Crater is a very windy area.
This is confirmed by the fact that a rocky landscape is observed in the crater. The fixed arch also attracted attention because it resembles a DNA strand. Experts have never seen anything like this before.
Curiosity has been exploring Gale Crater for 9 years. As the discovered arch demonstrated, a huge number of wonders, both visual and geological, can still be found on the Red Planet.
