US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — Not all countries are able to cope with the coronavirus pandemic. So, the population of Yemen is not able to fight the virus: it can be completely destroyed by the infection. The country has many problems; Yemen is not capable of dealing with them on its own.
The situation in the state is complicated by many factors, in particular the civil war, which has been going on for a long time. People have low immunity, children have not been vaccinated, the authorities cannot purchase enough tests and drugs, and most of the hospitals in the country are closed. According to statistics, almost a quarter of all areas of Yemen do not have doctors, people do not have anyone to contact.
The issue of Yemen was raised by Jean-Nicole Bose of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. He stated that a state like Yemen could disappear forever from the face of the earth. The number of patients whose symptoms resemble a coronavirus is growing rapidly. Unfortunately, there is an acute shortage of tests, so it is impossible to verify citizens.
Because of the civil war, people faced hunger, plus, before the coronavirus, they survived dengue fever, malaria and cholera. The body of all residents is incredibly weakened. It is estimated that 80% of citizens need humanitarian assistance.
Currently, 24 million people live in Yemen, and only a maximum of 20% have the means of subsistence. People eat once a day, some even lost their homes due to shelling.
Recall that in the whole world more than five million people fell ill with coronavirus. The largest number of patients is in the United States, followed by Russia.
