(ORDO NEWS) — The Chinese Space Agency is preparing to launch the Wentian module, which will take place on Sunday, July 24. The Long March 5B heavy rocket is to launch from the Wenchang Cosmodrome in Hainan and deliver the new module to China‘s Tiangong space station.
It should be noted that during the preliminary launches, Chinese missiles repeatedly fell uncontrollably to the Earth. This caused a threat to people‘s lives and caused damage.
Can a Chinese missile harm people?
The Long March 5B rocket is 53 meters high and weighs over 848 tons. The last launch ended with an uncontrolled fall of a rocket into the Indian Ocean, not far from the Maldives. Fortunately, there were no casualties then.
However, on May 20, 2020, fragments of a second rocket fell in Africa and destroyed several houses of local residents. Fortunately, none of them were hurt. It is important to note that when a Long March 5B rocket falls to Earth, not all of its parts burn up in the atmosphere.
In general, the likelihood that people will suffer from a fragment of a rocket is very small. And all because most of the Earth’s surface is covered by the ocean, and huge parts of the land are not inhabited.
At the same time, the risks of falling parts of the rocket on the regions populated by people are still present, and it is not so easy to calculate the exact places of the fall.
Development of the Chinese space station
With the launch and deployment of the Wentian module, the space station will be half-completed, but many astrophysicists worry that this flight, too, could end badly for the Chinese rocket.
Recall that the creation of the Chinese space station began on April 29, 2021, when the central module was raised into orbit. A total of 11 runs are required to complete the build. The total mass of the station in the final will be 100 tons.
