(ORDO NEWS) — Dozens of colored pottery over 1,300 years old were found in an ancient Chinese tomb.
The discovery was made during excavations in one of the districts of the city of Jinan, located in the eastern province of Shandong.
Since 2021, over 240 tombs have been unearthed at the site, dating from the Late Neolithic to the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).
The tomb inscription in the recently found tomb indicates that it was built in the third year of the Kaiyuan era of the Tang Dynasty.
According to the Gregorian calendar, the Kaiyuan era, considered the golden age of Chinese history, corresponds to 713-741 AD.
The 10-meter burial chamber is built of brick and has the shape of a knife handle.
Among more than 50 pottery items found, there are figurines of horsemen, camels, carts pulled by oxen, as well as mythical animals and figurines of people.
According to He Li, one of the excavators from the Jinan Institute of Archeology, tricolor ceramics from the Tang Dynasty have not yet been found in Shandong province in such quantities.
