(ORDO NEWS) — NASA has chosen Jeff Bezos’ private space company Blue Origin to send a new mission to Mars.
NASA is going to use the New Glenn launch vehicle to launch two spacecraft into Earth orbit, which will then head for the Red Planet.
The launch is scheduled for 2024, but it is not yet clear whether Blue Origin will be able to complete the task of the American space agency Blue Origin.
This expedition is called Escape and Plasma Acceleration and Dynamics Explorers, or ESCAPADE for short – most likely, they first chose a word for the name: after all, the word “escapade” in French (from where it was borrowed later by the British) means “bold trick”, “crazy trick”. Well, only then they came up with what words to “decipher” it.
ESCAPADE is scheduled to study the magnetosphere and atmosphere of the Red Planet using two spacecraft developed by Rocket Lab.
Two orbiting probes will orbit the Red Planet and explore how the solar wind has affected the atmosphere over billions of years, significantly thinning it.
The findings could help scientists learn more about how the planet got so dry over time, given that Martian water was abundant on the planet’s surface billions of years ago.
