(ORDO NEWS) — Astronomers from the University of Paris-Saclay during the compilation of a 3D-map of our universe, accidentally recorded a huge space structure. She is more than any other that could be found before. The “wall” has a length of 1.4 billion light years and includes millions of galaxies.
This object is called the South Pole Wall. For a long time, the object went unnoticed by astronomers, because it is located at a distance of 500 million light-years behind our galaxy, which is too bright and overshadows other objects.
Astronomers have long noted the fact that in our universe, galaxies line up in a certain order, and not just scattered across cosmic expanses. They gather around huge strings of hydrogen. In this case, incredibly large distances remain between these threads.
Previously, experts had already put various kinds of clusters on the map. Including one of the largest earlier clusters, which is called the Great Wall of Hercules-Northern Crown, was deposited. This cluster spanned 10 billion light years. This is even more than a tenth of the visible dimensions of our universe.
In 2014, scientists provided the supercluster Laniakea, in which the Milky Way is located. The width of the cluster reaches 520 million light years. To create a new map, scientists used the latest images of the sky. The southern part of the sky, which is overshadowed by the light of the Milky Way, was also not ignored. In this part, objects are practically invisible, but astronomers still managed to make a new discovery.
