(ORDO NEWS) — Northrop Grumman Corporation began assembling the sixth B-21 Raider strategic bomber. They want to roll out the first car this year.
The next generation strategic bomber program has passed another milestone: the US Air Force has confirmed that another B-21 Raider is under construction. This aircraft will be the sixth.
The completion of the construction of the first two B-21s became known in 2021. They want to roll out the Raider before the end of the year. The first flight will follow soon after.
The aircraft will be subsonic, inconspicuous and built according to the aerodynamic “flying wing” scheme. It is conceptually similar to the B-2. At the same time, Raider should be cheaper and easier to operate. In total, the US Air Force plans to receive at least 149 new machines.
The new generation bomber should replace the B-52 Stratofortress, B-1 Lancer and the B-2 mentioned above in the Air Force.
