On Tuesday, July 7, a merchant was transporting milk to a nearby market and was waiting for a ferry at the crocodile-populated Bausagali River in the village of Satabhaya. “The crocodile unexpectedly jumped out of the water, knee-deep, clenched his jaws and dragged him away. Some residents raised the alarm and tried to save the man, but to no avail, ”said boatman Karunakar Behera.
Representatives of the forestry department, rescuers and local residents began a search operation. The body of a man has not yet been found.
The Forestry Department is ready to pay compensation to the male relatives in the amount of 400 thousand rupees (379.7 thousand rubles) after a corresponding request.
