A combed crocodile dragged a merchant of milk under water

(ORDO NEWS) — A combed crocodile in the Indian park of Bhitarkanika in the Indian state of Odisha (Orissa) dragged under the water a milk merchant who was waiting for the crossing. This was reported by Down To Earth.

On Tuesday, July 7, a merchant was transporting milk to a nearby market and was waiting for a ferry at the crocodile-populated Bausagali River in the village of Satabhaya. “The crocodile unexpectedly jumped out of the water, knee-deep, clenched his jaws and dragged him away. Some residents raised the alarm and tried to save the man, but to no avail, ”said boatman Karunakar Behera.

Representatives of the forestry department, rescuers and local residents began a search operation. The body of a man has not yet been found.

The Forestry Department is ready to pay compensation to the male relatives in the amount of 400 thousand rupees (379.7 thousand rubles) after a corresponding request.

In the forests and swamps of Bhitarkanika Park, 1757 combed crocodiles live.

Earlier it was reported that in the Indian city of Vadodara, Gujarat, a crocodile was caught who killed a woman washing clothes on the river. The reptile lived for seven years in the Dev River near the village of Mahadevapura, during which time it ate seven people.
