(ORDO NEWS) — A Chinese woman has surprised the internet with photos of a 20-year-old boiled egg she’s been keeping since childhood.
She just forgot about him. The egg has been petrified and now resembles a ruby.
A woman named Fu posted photos of the fossilized egg on the Chinese social media platform Douban. The pictures quickly attracted people‘s attention and became popular.
Leading news outlets began contacting her about the unique egg, wanting to know its story.
The woman’s mother reportedly bought it for her 20 years ago when she was still in elementary school because it was unusually small.
The mother cooked it for her daughter to eat it at school, but after she put it in the side pocket of her backpack, she forgot about it for three days and did not dare to eat it after that, thinking it had gone bad.
But she didn’t want to throw the egg away, so she put it on the fridge and completely forgot about it for a couple of months.
When the woman’s mother discovered the egg, it had already changed color to maroon red, so instead of throwing it away, she decided to keep it in a small jewelry box.
As the years passed, Fu moved out of her parents’ house and forgot about the canned egg, but her mother recently found it while cleaning and showed it to her.
The egg not only became even more petrified, but also acquired the smooth texture of a plastic ball with small cracks.
Photos of the egg from a decade ago made a big impression on social media users. Some called it “Pharaoh’s egg” while others wondered why it hadn’t rotted all this time.
Mrs Wu Fu didn’t have all the answers, but she said it might have something to do with the cold, dry winter conditions in the area where she grew up. Experts have yet to confirm her theory.
