(ORDO NEWS) — One of the American nuclear warheads, which is stored at the Folkel base in the Netherlands, could have been damaged during a recent accident.
Specialists received a photo of a B61 bomb being examined by US soldiers and a civilian.
Most likely, the back of the bomb is warped by the impact, and one of the tail fins is missing. The hole at the end of the bomb is sealed with duct tape.
“It should be emphasized right away that there is no official confirmation that the image was taken at Volkel Air Force Base, that the curved shape of the B61 is a real weapon, or that the damage was the result of an accident,” wrote Hans Christensen, author of the report and director of the Nuclear Information Project.
He added that if the photo turns out to be genuine, it will be the first documented incident at an air base in Europe.
Earlier, Belgian politician Philippe Dewinter said that US warheads in Europe are a relic of the Cold War.
