(ORDO NEWS) — Canadian scientists have learned that the lyrics of your favorite songs can tell a lot about a person.
First of all, what style of attachment is characteristic of him. In addition, the researchers found that the lyrics of Western songs over the past half century began to display the so-called avoidant attachment style, singing about the independence of the individual.
The scholars also provided a list of songs for a particular style of relationship with the other half, so if you know English, you can check yourself.
There are several styles of attachment. The first one is worrisome. People of this type are characterized by anxiety about being rejected, so they expect from a relationship not so much interesting adventures as confidence.
Those with an avoidant attachment style close out of relationships by choosing independence. They fear the destructive emotions that inevitably arise in any love affair.
There are also those who have a mixed style that combines the two previous ones: such people either avoid relationships or cling to them.
Finally, there are those who have an optimistic view of relationships, are open to communication and trust partners. They have a secure attachment style.
Scientists from the University of Toronto (Canada) decided to find out how these behaviors can be associated with your favorite music. To begin with, they conducted a survey with 469 people who spoke about their favorite songs
Coded 4853 songs for each of the styles of attachment. In the next step, they studied the 823 most popular songs written from 1946 to 2015.
It turned out that over time, these texts become more and more characteristic of the avoidant style of attachment and reflect the social tendency towards alienation.
As a result, the researchers concluded that people with the latest attachment style listen to the same songs those that reflect the motives of separation and independence.
But for participants with an anxious style, such a correlation, contrary to the expectations of scientists, turned out to be the weakest, although it could be traced.
The authors of the study also compiled a list of some songs for a particular style of attachment. The avoidant behavior patterns were characterized by: Beyoncé – Irreplaceable; Chris Brown N’Sync – Bye Bye Bye Michael Jackson – Billie Jean Rihanna – Take a Bow.
For anxious: Adele – Someone Like You; The Police – Every Breath You Take No Doubt – Don’t Speak U2 – One; Adele – hello.
The mixed attachment style members liked the songs: Carrie Underwood – Before He Cheats; Gotye – Somebody that I Used to Know; Taylor Swift Rihanna ft. Drake Eminem ft. Rihanna – Love the Way You Lie.
Those with a secure attachment style listened to: Sonny & Cher – I Got You Babe; Whitney Houston The Beatles John Legend – All of Me Bryan Adams – (Everything I Do) I Do It for You Justin Bieber
