(ORDO NEWS) — A World War II bomb exploded in an English city, the sound of the explosion was heard for several kilometers.
Army specialists tried to neutralize it in the city of Great Yarmouth. As a result of the explosion of a 250-kilogram bomb, no one was injured.
Drone footage captured the moment the bomb exploded on the banks of the Yar River on Friday.
Neighboring streets were immediately evacuated upon discovery, but these residents can now safely return to their homes, Norfolk police said.
“Southtown Road remains closed while necessary damage checks are carried out,” Norfolk Police said in a statement.
During World War II, the coastal city of Great Yarmouth was in the path of the German Air Force flying to the northern industrial regions of England. At that time, a huge number of bombs were dropped.
If the Luftwaffe pilots could not find their targets, they often dropped their bombs on Great Yarmouth to avoid returning to Germany with them.
Unexploded bombs from World War II remain a serious problem in almost all of Europe.
