US Air Force has published images of successful tests of the XQ-58A jet drone
(ORDO NEWS) — The US Air Force has released previously classified photographs showing one of the latest XQ-58A Valkyrie unmanned combat aircraft during a test flight that took place on December 15, 2022.
The images highlight the fact that the drone does not require a runway to take off or land after a sortie.
The military emphasizes that an important aspect of the operation of the drone is that it can be used effectively without a runway.
This could be very advantageous in future operational environments where the traditional airbase infrastructure could be destroyed, damaged, or even destroyed altogether.
The Kratos XQ-58 Valkyrie is an experimental unmanned combat air vehicle with stealth technology.
According to the manufacturer’s official information, the range of the jet drone is estimated at 5,600 kilometers, and the practical ceiling is 14,000 meters.
The XQ-58A can also fly as a trusty wingman for other fighters such as the F-16, F-22 or F-35.
During a combat scenario, fighter jets can take off from the runway while the Valkyrie launches itself from the runway to meet its companion in the air.
