Tuberculosis kills 18 people per hour in Nigeria

(ORDO NEWS) — According to a report by the World Health Organization, at least 18 people die of tuberculosis per hour in Nigeria.

The director of the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Program, Ms. Itohovo Uko, said that “tuberculosis kills more people than the covid-19 pandemic in Nigeria.”

According to her, according to a WHO report, in 2019 alone, about 150 thousand people died from tuberculosis in Nigeria. The inability of tuberculosis patients to access medicines during isolation from COVID-19 has exacerbated the spread of tuberculosis in the country, the NTLCP director said.
