NEW YORK, BRONX (ORDO News) — One of the most fascinating and mysterious questions in the world of cosmology is finally beginning to reveal its secrets.
Scientists from the University of New Mexico and the University of California at Davis have proposed a surprising hypothesis that could explain the accelerated expansion of our Universe. It all comes down to a mirror universe.
The question of why our Universe is expanding at an increasing rate has long tormented cosmologists. Different measurement methods produced conflicting results, creating a mystery called the “cosmic tension problem.” It was a riddle that required unconventional answers.
A group of physicists led by the University of New Mexico and the University of California at Davis has proposed a bold idea – there is a mirror universe that interacts with ours through gravity. This theory, according to researchers, can solve the problem of cosmic tension.
The researchers noticed that when they adjusted cosmological models to match observed expansion rates, some parameters remained constant. This indicates the existence of a hidden symmetry, which can be explained by the presence of a mirror world.
The mirror world is not a new concept in physics. Previously, scientists proposed it to explain the imbalance between matter and antimatter in our Universe.
According to this idea, there is another universe, identical to ours, but mirrored: left and right, matter and antimatter, time and space. Both universes interact only through gravity, which turns out to be weaker than in each of them separately.
The scientists write: “The dark sector of the “mirror world” allows for efficient scaling of gravitational free fall velocities while respecting the measured average photon density.”
Researchers successfully applied this idea to the problem of cosmic tension and found that it worked surprisingly well. Their model makes it possible to reconcile two measurements of the expansion rate of the Universe without violating any physical laws or principles.
But the idea of a mirror universe raises many questions. It requires fine-tuning the initial conditions of both universes to ensure their symmetry. It also raises philosophical questions about the nature of reality and identity. If the mirror universe exists, does it have its own inhabitants, and do they know about us? These and other questions are left open.
