(ORDO NEWS) — Designer Joseph Forakis has unveiled the world‘s first 3D printed superyacht concept called the Pegasus.
The concept is 88 meters long and is equipped with reflective “solar wings”, allowing it to produce zero emissions and have an infinite range.
The idea of a futuristic yacht was born on a beach on the island of Koufonissi (Greece).
Forakis stated that he was “inspired by the idea of creating a yacht that is as close to the sea and nature as possible, consisting of clouds floating above the waterline and becoming almost invisible.”
This desire for “invisibility” has motivated Forakis to develop a zero-emission yacht that is invisible both in design and environmental impact.
Forakis and his team have implemented cutting-edge technology to achieve an unprecedented level of stability and cruising range for the vessel.
The team even plans to use robotic 3D printing to create a mesh frame that integrates the ship’s hull and superstructure.
“The result is an unusually strong and lightweight structure that can be manufactured with less energy, materials, waste, space and time compared to conventional construction,” Forakis said.
The yacht has a silver metallic finish that blends almost like a chameleon with the colors and movements of the water, and has tiered ephemeral glass wings that reflect the clouds and sky.
The Pegasus is designed to be zero carbon and has a virtually unlimited range.
For additional power during periods when the sun is out, solar energy is used to convert sea water into hydrogen. This hydrogen is then stored in lithium-ion batteries and used when needed.
