Terminator: scientists managed to create liquid metal

US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — Scientists managed to create a liquid metal, almost like in “Terminator”. They even made a hand out of it.

Researchers at Binghamton University said they created the “first liquid metal grate.” They used Field’s alloy, consisting of bismuth, indium and tin. Metal can become liquid already at a temperature of 62 degrees Celsius.

In the course of work, scientists combined metal with a rubber sheath. This was achieved thanks to a new production process, including 3D printing, vacuum casting and conformal coating. The shell frame controls shape and integrity. To demonstrate the material, the researchers made a hand out of it. It reminded reporters of the 1991 film Terminator 2: Doomsday.

It is noted that the prototype can restore shape after heating to the melting point. Scientists said that they dream of building a whole robot out of liquid metal.
