Spectacular Northern Lights spotted across the UK

(ORDO NEWS) — Bright aurora borealis of greens, pinks and purples have been observed as far south as Kent and Cornwall.

This natural light phenomenon, also known as aurora, is commonly seen in the high latitudes of the Arctic and Antarctic.

It is formed by a solar flare that ejects electrically charged particles that collide with gas molecules in the Earth‘s upper atmosphere.

This interaction produces green and red waves of light over our poles, so in the UK the Northern Lights are often only seen in Scotland and parts of northern England.

However, on rare occasions the phenomenon has been seen in the south of England and is expected to be seen again in parts of the UK tonight.
