(ORDO NEWS) — SpaceX is gearing up for an orbital test flight of its Starship spacecraft. The structure is already fully assembled at the launch site.
Recall that the design consists of two parts. The first stage, 70 meters long, the Super Heavy, will only be used for takeoff from Earth.
The second degree is the Starship spacecraft, which has several different modifications: passenger, cargo (for example, for launching satellites into space) or a tanker for space refueling.
Start is near
The Starship upper stage prototype, also known as Ship 24, is installed on the first stage of the Super Heavy launch vehicle (Booster 7) at the orbital launch pad at Starbase on Tuesday, October 11.
SpaceX is placing a Starship on a launch pad at its Starbase facility in South Texas for the first time since March. Last time they assembled Ship 20 and Booster 4 there.
The structure was mounted using the so-called system of “sticks” (chopsticks) , forming a complete rocket with a height of 120 meters. Its launch could take place as early as next month.
Previously, the company had conducted a series of static fire tests and other work with Ship 24 and Booster 7, which lasted several months.
A full dress rehearsal a simulated launch that includes fueling the rocket and going through countdown procedures and firing all 33 Raptor engines on the launch vehicle could happen soon.
