(ORDO NEWS) — Scientists from the Semmelweis University in Budapest discovered that it is safest for women to give birth to a child in a certain nine-year period. This was reported by The Sun.
Hungarian researchers analyzed 31,128 pregnancies that did not have genetic disorders of fetal development and compared these results with 2.8 million births over the past 30 years.
Thus, scientists from Semmelweis University found that the safest age for having a child is a woman’s age from 23 to 32 years. In this nine-year period, the researchers found the lowest possible number of birth defects.
Scientists indicate that the risk of developing non-genetic abnormalities in newborn children increased by 20% if the mother was under 22 years old.
At the age of over 32, this indicator was 15% higher compared to the age of 23-32. Among young mothers, malformations in the development of the central nervous system are most common, while in older mothers the risk of birth defects of the head, neck, eyes and ears has doubled.
Currently, scientists do not definitively know the reason for such results, but suggest possible reasons that could have influenced them.
The author of the study, Pete Boglarka, points out that the main factor for young mothers is their lifestyle, in particular, this applies to smoking, alcohol or drug use. In addition, women under the age of 22 are often not ready for pregnancy.
“Among older mothers, there is an accumulation of environmental effects of chemicals, deterioration of DNA repair mechanisms, air pollution, as well as aging of eggs,” says Semmelweis University Associate Professor Pete Boglarka.
