(ORDO NEWS) — 73-year-old Bruce Campbell turned the plane into a unique dwelling, fulfilling a long-standing dream. It all started when, as a teenager, he saw a story about an airplane graveyard on TV. Years later, he purchased land in Oregon and bought a Boeing 727, which he turned into his home. This is reported by CNBC.
His unusual dream arose when, at the age of 15, he saw an airplane cemetery on TV. From that moment on, Bruce decided that one day he would live in one of them. He began to realize his dream back in the 70s, when he purchased 4 hectares of land in the woods of Hillsboro (Oregon) for $25,800.
Buying an airplane was the next step on the way to realizing his dream. In 1999, Bruce bought a Boeing 727 in Greece. It was an unforgettable story in itself. He had to pay $100,000 to get the plane into the forest, plus $20,000 for transportation.
It took the ex-engineer two years and $15,000 to turn Boeing into a comfortable home.
There are 9 doors inside the plane, and the entrance is at the tail. It has everything you need for a comfortable life: a sink, a toilet, a self-made shower, a refrigerator and a washing machine. Bruce sleeps on the sofa and cooks food in the microwave oven, since he does not need a stove – he eats little and rarely cooks.
Monthly maintenance costs for this unusual home are approximately $370, of which $220 goes to property taxes and $100-250 to electricity bills.
This plane, which used to hold up to 200 passengers, became a home only for Bruce. But he is never bored, because he is constantly busy repairing old computers and often receives guests who come to see his unusual home.
Bruce claims that he does not regret for a minute his decision to inhabit the plane. He believes that every decommissioned jetliner deserves a second life.
