US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — Since people began to use electricity for military purposes, work has been carried out to create special weapons that make equipment completely useless. There are such types of weapons – they are either hiding in the annals of weapons design engineering, or reappearing as new solutions for some new complex – that are aimed at destroying electronics and only electronics.
At the beginning of July, the Russian media reported about weapons that could hardly fit into the given alternation scheme, and the expression “EMR gun” was used to describe it. EMP, or electromagnetic pulse, is a real and observable phenomenon, but the main way to achieve this effect on a large scale is possible using nuclear weapons. When a nuclear charge explodes near the surface of the Earth, along with other damaging factors, an electromagnetic pulse arises, but its propagation radius is limited, and its effect is blocked by other deadly consequences of a nuclear explosion. When a nuclear charge explodes at high altitude, in the lower layers of space, this momentum can travel a fairly large distance,
The aforementioned Russian EMR gun does not have any of these indicators, and this makes its name doubtful. Instead, this gun, judging by its description, is more like a microwave gun, a kind of weapon of directed energy, which in modern conditions can be used to combat drones.
In this case, this weapon can be regarded as “a continuation of discussions in Russia regarding the development of breakthrough technologies, which are perceived as a response to the superiority of the West in the field of high-tech and high-precision weapons,” said Samuel Bendett, Advisor to the Russian Programs Department of the Military Research Center Center for Naval Analyses, specializing in Russian unmanned military systems.
Weapons of directed energy can, in particular, destroy drones, and this allows him to jump into future wars, since manned and robotic aircraft will fight in the sky filled with hostile devices. According to the TASS agency, this weapon can be installed on a remotely controlled unmanned version of any sixth generation fighter manufactured by Russia.
“Such guns, based on their description, also fit into the research, development and testing work carried out in Russia in the field of fighting drones,” says Bendett. “These work are based on experience gained in the fight against drones in Syria. In addition, such systems are supposed to be used against high-altitude drones of Western countries, which are currently conducting observation flights near Russian borders. ”
Whatever the nature of the electronics-suppression weapon currently being developed, future wars will likely use significantly more new energy weapons.
