(ORDO NEWS) — The Guardian: In London, recorded the strongest air pollution since January 2017.
On one weekend in January 2023, London recorded its highest air pollution in six years. Problems have been linked to burning firewood, according to The Guardian.
The level of pollution concentration has reached the maximum value according to the index introduced by the UK government.
Prior to this, a similar high level of harmful particles was recorded in January 2017. Higher rates were noticed in the southwestern suburbs of London.
Soot particles were found in the chemical composition of pollution at Imperial College London.
It turned out that most of them are formed due to the fact that residents heat their houses with firewood and other solid fuels.
On an average year, British wood stoves and fireplaces contribute more air pollution than vehicle exhaust fumes.
Previously, a team of scientists from the University of British Columbia and the University of Victoria found that even short-term exposure to exhaust-polluted air causes brain disorders.
