OneWeb filed for bankruptcy

US, WASHINGTON (ORDO NEWS) — The British company OneWeb , which launches satellites from the Vostochny and Baikonur cosmodromes, has filed for bankruptcy in a court in the Southern District of New York.

As the company noted, since the beginning of the year, OneWeb has been engaged in attracting investments, obtaining financing was possible in the near future.

However, the worsening economic situation in the world and the instability of markets associated with the spread of COVID-19 made this process difficult.

In June 2015, Arianespace and OneWeb signed a contract for 21 launches of Soyuz launch vehicles with Frigate boosters to launch 672 OneWeb satellites into space.

Nine launches were planned from Baikonur (two have already been completed), from the East – six and the same number from Kuru (one already completed).

OneWeb planned to create a constellation of satellites that will provide broadband Internet access for users around the world thanks to the full coverage of the Earth‘s surface.
