(ORDO NEWS) — Research teams from the Kitt Peak National Observatory and the Serra Tololo Inter-American Observatory have created a huge map called the DESI Legacy Imaging Survey.
It covers about 20,000 square degrees, about half the sky, and contains about one billion galaxies, which make up only one percent of the total in the part of the universe that astronomers can observe.
The map can be viewed here . It is interactive and allows you to control the scale, brightness and contrast.
And when you click on any of the billion objects depicted on it, a window opens with data collected by different telescopes.
The first version of the map, containing data on 14 thousand square degrees of the sky, was presented a little earlier.
Then data from the Mayal telescope and the Bock telescope camera from the University of Arizona were added to it.
Thanks to this, it was possible to expand the field of view and add data on observations in the infrared range.
