(ORDO NEWS) — The International Space Station (ISS) was forced to maneuver to avoid a potential collision with an Earth observation satellite owned by Satellogic.
The docked Progress-83 cargo ship fired its engines for about six minutes to lift the space station, NASA said.
The ISS crew learned about the risk of rendezvous with the satellite 20 minutes before the orbit change maneuver.
The controllers confirmed that the satellite would fly by at a distance of about 2.7 kilometers. Despite this distance, which is considered quite safe, it was decided to perform a maneuver.
