(ORDO NEWS) — Portal MailOnline polled a number of experts about what they think about the potential extraterrestrial life that could exist in the solar system and on distant exoplanets.
Opinions differed. Researchers have noted that aliens may have features such as large brains, huge wings or spindle-shaped bodies, and aliens can look almost like people.
Professor David Rothery of the Open University said they might look like “a colony of microorganisms on rocks at the bottom of the ocean.”
While “there may be larger organisms that have evolved to feed on microbes, crab-like, shrimp-like, and squid-like creatures are unlikely to be found in the oceans of Jupiter’s moon Europa.”
Professor Andrew Coates of University College London believes that any life forms in our solar system will be “simple unicellular”.
Astronomer Michael Garrett, a professor at the University of Manchester, believes that the answer to the question of what “complex life might look like” will largely depend on the environment in which it develops.
For example, a more massive planet, where the force of gravity is stronger, may favor life forms that are rather squat and muscular, while a less massive planet (where the force of gravity is weaker) may be suitable for the development of more complex life forms, representatives of which will be rather lean. and tall.”
Professor Garrett also said that if the Earth had a less dense atmosphere, “life forms with huge wings” could exist in it.
“Or, if your star is a red giant, you might find life with eyes that are much more sensitive and larger than ours,” he added.
Professor Garrett is one of many scientists who believe that the existence of humanoid aliens is also possible: “Intelligent life, such as humans, would presumably involve relatively large brains, limbs, and flexible fingers that could record history and advances in knowledge. which can then be passed down from one generation to the next, always building on what came before.”
Dr. Maggie Aderin-Pocock believes that on Titan, the moon of Saturn, there may be aliens that look like a jellyfish the size of a football field.
These silicon-based lifeforms, not carbon, the doctor believes, will be able to survive on light absorbed by their “skin” and chemicals sucked in through their giant mouths.
Oxford University research believes that life could potentially be shaped by the same processes that created humans, such as natural selection, and that aliens might even “look like us.”
