NEW YORK, BRONX (ORDO News) — Japan‘s Acquisition Technology and Logistics Agency (ATLA) announced the successful testing of an electromagnetic rail gun placed on an offshore platform.
Information about the specific conditions and details of the tests remains a mystery, but it is already known that this advanced development, called the “railgun”, demonstrates impressive characteristics.
The electromagnetic rail gun is capable of firing 320 gram projectiles consisting of 40mm steel projectiles.
The initial velocity of the projectile is 2230 meters per second, which is equivalent to 7962 kilometers per hour. But not only this is impressive, the railgun operates at a charge energy of five megajoules (five million joules).
This technological marvel is capable of piercing armor and targets at considerable distances.
The Japanese authorities have not yet disclosed all the details about how this unique technology will be used , but it can already be assumed that the railgun could become a key element of the country’s defense.
