NEW YORK, BRONX (ORDO News) — The results of recent excavations in the tomb of the ancient Egyptian queen Meret-Neit, located in central Egypt, in Abydos, have excited archaeologists . These excavations raise questions about the possible reign of this mysterious woman and her influence on ancient Egypt.
Meret-Neith, considered the wife of King Djet and the mother of King Den, belonged to the First Dynasty of ancient Egypt. Of interest is her tomb, which is believed to be her final resting place. Excavations at this tomb shed light on the possible reign of Meret-Neit and her role in ancient Egyptian history.
However, some experts argue that Meret-Neith may have ruled the area. The ancient Egyptians did not usually include women in their list of heirs to the throne, but finds in her tomb suggest otherwise.
It was discovered that her tomb was filled with goods for members of the royal family. Excavation leader Christiane Köhler from the University of Vienna says the finds include hundreds of sealed wine jugs. The researchers also found traces of organic remains, grape seeds and crystals. These finds indicate the significance of Meret Neit in ancient Egyptian history and its possible role in government.
The ancient Egyptian queen was quite a powerful figure with a strangely high authority. According to Egyptology professor emeritus Ronald Leproon of the University of Toronto, the presence of Meret-Neit’s name in the king list indicates something extremely important, but the nature of that importance remains a mystery.
Egyptologist Jean-Pierre Patznick of the Sorbonne University adds that no other queen since then has enjoyed as many royal privileges as Meret-Neit. However, even if she ruled, she probably did not hold the title of “pharaoh”, which came later in the history of ancient Egypt. Questions about its exact role and influence remain open.
The hope for solving the mystery of Meret-Neith and her reign rests on further research. As Christiane Köhler notes, more extensive excavations of the tomb complex may reveal new facts about this unique female figure and her era.
