Coronavirus almost identical to COVID-19 found in bats in China

(ORDO NEWS) — Scientists have discovered a completely new strain of coronavirus in bats in China, which is almost 95% identical to COVID-19. Experts named this virus RpYN06 and noted that it has the same spike protein.

The experts took 411 samples from 23 different species of bats. During their research, they found four genomes that are related to SARS-CoV-2. It is worth noting that the other three viruses also have identical sequences.

Weifeng Shi, who was doing the research with his colleagues, said that the viruses were found in animals living in Southeast Asia and southern China.

Chris van Tulleken before that said that a new pandemic could lead to even more dire consequences than COVID-19. He also added that now viruses are transmitted to humans from animals much more often than before. A new pandemic can happen at any time and it is worth preparing for it in advance in order to avoid a huge number of deaths and dire consequences that will affect all of humanity.
