Congo measles outbreak 4,600 cases, 123 deaths

(ORDO NEWS) — Measles outbreak continues in the Congo with a total of 15 health districts with outbreaks, including eight health districts (Enyelle-Betou, Loandjili, Lumumba, Mvoumvou, Ngoyo, Tie-Tie, Ouesso, Mongo-Puku) affected since the last quarter of 2021 despite targeted outbreak response, and seven health districts where outbreaks were confirmed in 2022 (Enyel Betu, Hinda Loango, Kinkala, Muyonji, Mvuti Kakamoeka, Wesso, Thalangai).

As of March 20, 2022, there were 4,610 reported cases nationwide with 123 deaths (OFR 2.7%). About 59% of cases are children under 5 years of age, and 50% of cases are unvaccinated.
