(ORDO NEWS) — With record high levels of carbon dioxide (CO2) and continued warming, the Earth has officially reached code red levels, a new climate report says.
We are already living in a time of global catastrophe, according to new report
An international team of researchers has published a report titled “Global Scientists Warn of 2022 Climate Emergency” in which they say humanity is “definitely already living in a climate emergency.”
The authors of the report are 10 scientists from around the world, led by the University of Oregon, USA.
In their work, the researchers analyzed 35 vital indicators of the planet, which are used to track climate change.
16 of these signs are at an all-time high, including extreme heat, global loss of tree cover due to fires and a high prevalence of mosquito-borne dengue virus.
“As we can see from the yearly spikes in climate disasters, we are now in the midst of a major climate crisis, and if we continue to do things the way we have done before, we are in for a worse situation,” said Christopher Wolfe, co-author of the study.
The researchers also note that atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) levels are the highest on record, reaching a whopping 418 parts per million (ppm).
