(ORDO NEWS) — China wasted no time in criticizing NASA and the head of the space agency, Bill Nelson, after the launch of the ultra-expensive SLS rocket (as part of the Artemis I expedition to the moon) was again delayed.
On the Chinese English-language news site Global Times, the country’s Communist Party leadership criticized Nelson, who in turn criticized China’s space program in an interview with NBC News that aired the day before the launch of the Space Launch Systems (SLS) rocket.
“The Chinese have received a lot of technology from the US and other countries, as a result of which their space program is quite successful,” Nelson said, echoing his May claim that China’s space program was “stealing” technology from the US and other countries.
Although he did not elaborate on this statement. In early July, a NASA chief accused China of trying to “steal the moon” in an interview with the German newspaper Bild.
Not surprisingly, the Chinese space industry has hit back.
“The American side is constantly conducting a smear campaign against China’s normal and reasonable space efforts, and China strongly opposes such irresponsible remarks,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said at a press conference after Nelson’s comments were published.
And in general, if China is “stealing” the advanced technologies of the United States, then why is the NASA mega-rocket standing on the ground, while Chinese rockets fly into space, and their own space station is being built?
