(ORDO NEWS) — Astronomers are facing new challenges, all because the James Webb Space Telescope is working too well.
Astronomers note that although they are incredibly excited about the advent of a powerful telescope, they have become more difficult to cope with the significant amount of data received by the device.
The thing is that James Webb sends 50 gigabytes of data a day, compared to just one or two gigabytes that Hubble sends.
In the first months of the telescope’s operation, studying the vast array of data obtained by the James Webb Telescope led scientists to publish dozens of as-yet unreviewed scientific articles on the arXiv server (that is, scientific journals also cannot cope with a surge in scientific activity).
