NEW YORK, BRONX (ORDO News) — Chinese online stores are experiencing a boom in automation thanks to clone sellers powered by artificial intelligence. These virtual “sellers” never get tired and are ready to work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
A whole new level of marketing is beginning to dominate the Chinese online shopping scene. Live streaming is considered the most profitable marketing channel, and stars of platforms such as Taobao and Douyin can make instant deals. However, these successes require huge investments. The cost of training as an online seller is high, and it involves not only money, but also time. Moreover, every presenter inevitably faces the need to rest. This is where AI-powered avatars come in…
Recently, MIT Technology Review published an interesting article about how artificial intelligence is taking over the market of Chinese online sellers. Even late at night, popular channels on Taobao, Douyou or Kuaishou continue to delight their viewers. However, if you take a closer look, some peculiarities are revealed in the behavior and speech of sellers. These are not real people, but a product of artificial intelligence that performs its duties perfectly.
“If a company hires ten live broadcasters, each of them will have a different skill level. The top two or three streamers can account for most of the sales,” says AI company CEO Chen Dan. “A virtual host can replace six or seven streamers who have less input and lower ROI. This significantly reduces costs.”
Even though the best online sellers still outsell AI-powered clones, many companies are opting for automation. Creating a basic clone now costs around 8,000 yuan ($1,100), providing the opportunity to reduce costs, improve 24/7 service availability, and truly increase sales.
