(ORDO NEWS) — Dinosaur footprints were discovered during a casual conversation in 2022, when one of the patrons of a restaurant in China asked about unusual indentations in the stone floor.
This person spotted a dozen evenly spaced footprints along the outdoor courtyard of the Garden restaurant in Sichuan province, which were later confirmed to be dinosaur footprints about 100 million years old.
According to a new article about this discovery, these marks were seen as early as the 1950s, but they were considered nothing special and puttyed to level the floor.
At the time it was a house, but three years ago it was converted into a restaurant, rediscovering these traces to the world.
“The footprints have gone unnoticed for so long, but once you know what they are, they’re hard to miss,” Associate Professor Lida Xin of the China University of Geosciences, who participated in the study, said in a statement.
“There are no dinosaur skeletal remains in this region, so these fossilized footprints provide invaluable information about the species of dinosaurs that lived in the area.”
