(ORDO NEWS) — Scientists from the National Institute of Anthropology and History of Mexico (INAH) found out why the ancient inhabitants of Mesoamerica erected pyramids. The study report was published on the organization’s website.
After studying pre-Hispanic objects in Mexico, it turned out that the pyramids were sacred copies of the mountains. So, according to scientists, residents imitated the nature in which pyramidal forms met.
It is noted that the pre-Hispanic Mesoamerican societies also tried to lay some sacred meaning in the objects created. That is why the pyramids were the centers of ancient cities. Also, a special form of structures facilitated the task of erecting a high monumental object.
Mesoamerica is a historical and cultural region that is located from the center of Mexico to Honduras and Nicaragua. One of the most famous buildings is the pyramid of El Castillo in the ancient Mayan city of Chichen Itza (Mexico).
