NEW YORK, BRONX (ORDO News) — In an overnight attack, Ukraine‘s air force successfully shot down 30 out of 40 Iranian-made “Shahed” drones launched by Russia. The attack primarily targeted central and southern regions of Ukraine.
According to the South Military command, 20 drones were intercepted in the central Vinnytsia region, while an additional 10 were downed over the Odesa and Mykolaiv regions in the south.
Natalia Humeniuk, a spokesperson for the southern command, reported that Russia’s attack included strikes on port infrastructure, including along the Danube River, and attempts to target critical infrastructure facilities in other Ukrainian regions with the goal of impacting the country’s economy.
The intensified air attacks by Russia on Ukrainian grain export infrastructure along the Danube River and in the port of Odesa have been ongoing since July.
This escalation in hostilities followed Russia’s withdrawal from a U.N.-brokered deal, which had previously allowed for the safe export of Ukrainian grain via the Black Sea.
Serhiy Borzov, the Vinnytsia regional governor, revealed that an infrastructure facility in the region was hit during the attack, resulting in a significant fire. However, further details about the extent of the damage were not provided.
Additionally, regional authorities reported that three individuals were injured in the southern Kherson region, which is in close proximity to the frontlines and frequently experiences artillery shelling.
