(ORDO NEWS) — Specialists from the Institute of Archeology at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences discovered Buddha figurines from the Tang Dynasty (618-907) in the city of Xi’an in the northwest of China.
According to him, Chinese experts stumbled upon figurines made of ceramics and stone, most of them were damaged.
In total, scientists have recovered 680 fragments of ancient figurines and sculptures from underground.
The excavations were carried out in a place where one of the largest markets in East Asia was located 1.5 thousand years ago.
Some of the discovered artifacts were painted and gilded.
According to local experts, during the Tang Dynasty, this place was a warehouse for a handicraft shop.
All figurines are placed in one of the state depositories and, as noted, will be studied in detail.
