(ORDO NEWS) — Scientists warn the public about the risk of an explosion in the Earth‘s core. As follows from the material, the cause of such catastrophic consequences could be global warming.
According to a recent study, not only the Earth’s biosphere is currently under threat, but also the Earth’s inner core , which has a rounded shape and a diameter of about 2,000 kilometers.
Its dimensions, experts say, are decreasing due to the process of nuclear decay, and therefore the energy that the nucleus releases is radioactive in nature, which can only be compared with a nuclear reactor.
And in order to provide and maintain life on Earth, scientists add, the core must be constantly cooled.
Today, the energy balance is maintained thanks to the heat released by the core, as well as the heat dissipated in space from the Sun.
At the same time, the researchers argue, the increase in temperature in the active zone of the core can be triggered by an increase in solar activity or greenhouse gas emissions, which are considered the cause of global warming.
The most serious reason for the potential meltdown and explosion of the earth’s core, the researchers believe, is the gravitational segregation of isotopes that are in an unstable state inside the molten inner core.
This process ensures the enrichment of nuclear fuel to the level where a chain reaction with a powerful nuclear explosion becomes possible.
To track changes in the heat energy coming to Earth from the Sun, experts collect temperature data at the poles.
According to them, global warming and melting glaciers can really cause the temperature of the planetary core to rise to critical values.
