(ORDO NEWS) — Employees of the European Space Agency (ESA) while working on the Gaia Milky Way project were engaged in compiling a map of the life of our Sun. The main goal of this project is to compile a map of the Milky Way.
This was reported by the European Space Agency.
Astronomers carefully monitor how different stars are located in the sky, how they move. Along with this, the object’s brightness index and spectral classification are measured. With the help of the received information, it is possible to obtain data on the chemical composition of the star, its temperature, and also find out the age of the celestial body.
The age of the star does not affect its mass, but the temperature of the object can change significantly over time. This value will be affected by the nuclear fusion that takes place in the core of the star. The closer the object’s death, the more active the synthesis will be.
The Sun belongs to the group of yellow dwarfs. Its age reaches approximately 4.57 billion years. The surface temperature of the star reaches 5772 Kelvin.
It is necessary to pay attention to the fact that earlier specialists were engaged in the study of those stars that had a temperature in the range of 3000-10000 Kelvin. It is also interesting that such stars are not so big, but at the same time they live much longer.
After analyzing information about those stars that resemble the Sun, experts have established the approximate time of its death.
The highest temperature of our star will be when it will be almost 8 billion years old. In 10-11 billion years, the Sun will become a red giant star. Then the star will lose its hydrogen, which is necessary for continued fusion inside the core, and die.
Astronomers have said that every billion years the Sun becomes brighter by 10%. This affects the temperature of both the star and our planet. Such changes could cause the Earth to be unfit for human habitation.
