(ORDO NEWS) — Plants under stress are capable of making sounds that humans cannot hear. This conclusion was reached by Israeli scientists from Tel Aviv University, after conducting a study.
For the study, scientists chose tomatoes and tobacco. To cause stress in plants, experts did not water them for several days, and also cut the stems.
Experts used microphones to record sounds to find out the response to such conditions.
As a result, it turned out that tomatoes and tobacco made clicks or pops that a person is not able to hear. After that, corn, wheat, grapes and cactus showed similar results.
Scientists have not yet figured out what is the mechanism for the production of sounds in plants. This is thought to be due to cavitation.
Experts noted that the results of this study can be used in agriculture to assess the conditions in which agricultural crops are located.
