(ORDO NEWS) — The US Department of Defense and military-industrial corporation Lockheed Martin have awarded a nearly $431 million contract to produce HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) for the needs of the US military and Washington’s partners abroad, the Pentagon said Thursday.
Lockheed Martin has been awarded a $430,930,711 fixed-price contract for full-scale production of HIMARS MLRS and support services to meet urgent support needs for the U.S. Army and various overseas partners.
The HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System) multiple launch rocket system was developed in the USA by BAE Systems and Lockheed Martin in 1996-2000 and has been produced since 2003.
Created on the basis of a three-axle wheeled chassis FMTV of the US Army, it can carry six rockets or one ATACMS operational-tactical ballistic missile, the effective firing range for certain types of ammunition is up to 80 kilometers.
