(ORDO NEWS) — Twitter user gbrammer has posted a stunning image of the central region of the spiral galaxy Messier 74 (M 74) based on publicly available data from NASA‘s James Webb Space Telescope.
M 74 is about 35 million light-years from Earth and appears optically (below) as a “perfect galaxy” with well-defined rotating arms. But in the infrared range, it turns into a “seething hell”…
At the center of M 74 – and, perhaps, at the center of every large galaxy – lies a supermassive black hole, which has long cleared the vicinity of its orbit, absorbing and scattering matter in different directions.
Looking at the image, one gets the impression that the black hole is in an endless quest to swallow the entire galaxy.
The new image is a clear illustration of how the universal order is born out of chaos.
