(ORDO NEWS) — The great exploration space odyssey is about to begin. Humanity’s bold new mission to the outer solar system, ESA‘s Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer, or Juice, is ready to explore the giant planet Jupiter and its largest moons.
These intriguing worlds have intrigued scientists since Galileo first aimed his telescope at the planet and discovered its four largest moons: Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto. Three of them are believed to contain underground oceans.
Data from the first space probes to visit the Jupiter system has raised more questions than answers. But thanks to Juice, a lot can become clear.
ESA is set to launch the spacecraft in April 2023. Juice will embark on an eight-year journey to a distant planet.
To unlock the secrets of these mysterious worlds, Juice has been equipped with powerful scientific instruments.
Along the way, the spacecraft will encounter many dangers: radiation, extreme temperatures, and Jupiter’s enormous gravitational pull.
The spacecraft will operate hundreds of millions of kilometers from Earth.
ESA operators will attempt to safely guide him through all of these tests in the hope that Juice’s future scientific discoveries will be worth the effort.
