(ORDO NEWS) — Archaeologists have unearthed more than 50 tricolor pottery items in eastern China in a tomb estimated to be about 1,300 years old.
The discovery was made during excavations in one of the districts of the city of Jinan, located in the eastern province of Shandong.
Since 2021, over 240 tombs have been unearthed at the site, dating from the Late Neolithic to the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).
According to the inscription on the tomb in which the porcelain was found, the burial took place in the third year of the Kaiyuan era (713-741) of the Tang Dynasty (618-907), which is considered the golden age in Chinese history.
The excavated pottery has a different shape. Among them there are figurines of riders on horseback, camels and carts.
He Li from the Jinan Institute of Archeology, who led the excavation, explained that tri-color porcelain from the Tang Dynasty had never been found in Shandong province in such quantities.
20 pieces of white porcelain were also found in the tomb, which provides experts with new material to study the evolution of pottery during the Tang Dynasty.
