(ORDO NEWS) — An international team of biologists has uncovered the process by which unique fingerprints are formed.
It is noted that each person on the planet has unique features. In particular, this is a pattern of the retina, fingerprints, a pattern of veins in the palm of your hand.
In order to understand exactly how the pattern is formed on the fingertips, biologists conducted a series of scientific experiments. They followed the development of fingerprints in mouse embryos and in cultured human cells.
The researchers found that the “reaction-diffusion system” discovered by mathematician Alan Turing plays an important role in the formation of imprints.
Observation has shown that skin cells behave in accordance with this system.
The scientists were able to find out that the emerging microscallops propagate to the sides, like waves, constantly colliding and interacting with each other.
The process that eventually leads to the formation of a unique print pattern begins at the tip of the finger, in the center of the pad and closer to the second phalanx of the finger, the biologists noted.
Scientists summarized that in the initial stages, the process resembles the formation of hair follicles. Accordingly, they suggested, the pattern of hair can also be unique in each person.
